The Archaeologist is responsible for scheduling, managing, and conducting Phase I-III fieldwork , lab analysis, and research for archaeological projects. The role includes writing portions of archaeological reports under the direction of Senior Archaeologists and assisting with project planning and implementation. Work will focus on Texas and adjacent states, with opportunities for nationwide fieldwork.
Conduct archaeological fieldwork, identifying artifacts and assessing the presence of archaeological sites.
Collect data and field samples during archaeological investigations.
Analyze historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
Document research methodologies and findings.
Review and prepare archaeological reports and site forms.
Assist in evaluating project alternatives and resolving potential adverse effects to cultural resources.
Prepare artifacts and project records for curation.
Collaborate with field, lab, and office staff, as well as managers, to ensure quality standards and regulatory compliance.
Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
Minimum 4 years of professional archaeological experience , including at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Regional experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology .
Demonstrated ability to lead Phase I-III fieldwork .
Ability to provide a writing sample (thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report).
Valid driver’s license.
Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or eligibility to obtain registration.
Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Google Earth , or other GIS software.
Experience obtaining a Texas Antiquities Permit.
Significant laboratory and artifact curation experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel .
Ability to supervise field crews and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
