Assistant Band Leader
Stipend: $5,261/yr. (2025-26) The Assistant Band Leader supports the Band Leader by providing essential instructional, administrative, and logistical oversight for the school instrumental music program. This role involves co-directing student ensembles, including the marching and concert bands, during rehearsals and performances both during and after school hours. The Assistant Band Leader plays a critical role in maintaining instrument inventory, ensuring student safety, and facilitating a high-quality, engaging musical experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities : - Assist Band Leader in planning, rehearsing, and directing various instrumental groups, including marching band, concert band, jazz band, orchestras, and small ensembles/soloists.
- Provide students with appropriate learning activities and individual instruction to help them achieve their potential in musical skill and intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of plans that fulfill the district's instrumental music curriculum requirements.
- Assist with directing and supervising practices and rehearsals, including after-school practices and summer camp.
- Select and prepare appropriate, diverse, and high-quality musical repertoire.
- Provide input for curriculum and lesson plans in alignment with ASD and Pennsylvania State Standards for Music Education.
- Prepare students for district, regional, and state music festivals, competitions, and auditions.
- Coordinate and schedule all rehearsals, sectionals, and performances, including evening and weekend events.
- Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all district-owned instruments, sheet music, equipment, and supplies. Oversee the maintenance, repair, and proper storage of all assets.
- Recruit and retain students into the music program, coordinating closely with feeder schools.
- Establish and maintain open, professional, and cooperative communication with students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
- Supervise students at all times, ensuring a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Uphold and enforce all Allentown School District policies and administrative regulations.
Preferred Qualifications : - Demonstrated proficiency in teaching instrumental music.
- Prior experience as a director or assistant director of a school music program is preferred.
- Proven ability to conduct and lead large and small instrumental ensembles.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, and community members.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive environment.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
