Overview

Dispatcher - Transport Medicine System Status Controller | LACP at Bon Secours Mercy Health. This is a night shift (6p-6a) position. The team improves health care quality, safety and cost effectiveness through effective transport management.

Responsibilities
  • Receive all incoming telephone inquiries and requests for patient transport in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Maintain professional radio and phone communication with administration, transport teams, requesting agencies, hospital staff, physicians, and public safety personnel.
  • Triages all transport requests and accurately enters required information into the Computer-Aided Dispatch System.
  • Maintain records and documentation associated with patient transport and the operation of the Communications Center.
  • Ensure billing paperwork is completed accurately.
  • Maintain knowledge of communications equipment and operate/request service calls; report equipment failures.
  • Activate transport teams and relay information on patient location and condition; initiate appropriate notification and determine patient destination.
  • Know the Mercy Health Transport Medicine Emergency Response Plan and participate in quality management and drills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of policies, procedures, and protocols for Mercy Health Transport Medicine; understand state/local EMS regulations and regional protocols.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in triaging transports and making decisions in a high-stress environment.
  • Maintain constant radio contact with transport teams and document contacts; stay at the dispatch station when any helicopter is airborne.
Licensing/Certification
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
  • Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) - Various (preferred at time of hire; required within 6 months of hire)
  • Ohio Paramedic - Ohio EMS (preferred)
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Associates, Healthcare, Public Safety, or related field (preferred)
Work Experience
  • 1 year of experience in EMS, healthcare, public safety, or related field (required)
  • 1 year of previous EMS or public safety dispatching experience (preferred)
Training
  • Incident Command System (ICS) 100 (required)
  • ICS 200 (required)
  • ICS 700 (required)

  • Demonstrates knowledge to assign clinical personnel and transport resources appropriate to patient age and needs.
  • Knowledge of growth and development; ability to assess data and identify patient requirements across age groups: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics.
Working Conditions
  • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads.
  • Long-distance or air travel as needed (not to exceed 10% travel).
  • General office environment with possible interruptions.
  • Required to travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
