Vocational Nurse (LVN) - (casual appointment) Coffield Unit Join to apply for the Vocational Nurse (LVN) - (casual appointment) Coffield Unit role at The University of Texas Medical Branch Job Overview The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

JOB SUMMARY :

To provide direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and perform nursing procedures within the scope of their education and demonstrated abilities. Essential Job Functions Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients. Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care given. Performs admission, discharge, and transfer procedures. Reviews and, under supervision, modifies the plan of care based on the nursing plan of care in daily assignments. Observes and records signs, symptoms, behaviors, and physiological status of patients; proposes revisions of interventions and outcomes. Delivers designated nursing interventions consistent with the medical plan of care. Notifies appropriate staff of changes in patient status; recognizes care priorities and potential crises. Follows physician's orders in delivering nursing care. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Administers medications and treatments safely and properly. Executes written physician's orders for assigned patients. Prepares equipment and supplies for diagnostic or treatment procedures; assists with procedures or treatments as needed. Adheres to infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques. Documents nursing care in all assigned patient records. Follows internal controls and reporting structures. Performs related duties as required. Equipment Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices. Work Environment Located within a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center. Security clearance and pre-employment drug testing are required. Minimum Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program and current license/permit as a vocational nurse in Texas. No experience required. Current BLS-HP certification required. This is a non-benefit eligible position limited to 19 hours per week.
