Genetic Counselor II – Children’s National Hospital Base pay range: $69,659.20 – $116,084.80 per year. About the Role The Genetic Counselor II will provide genetic counseling services to patients through CNMC on site or at designated outreach centers. Tasks include obtaining medical and family histories, reviewing pertinent medical records, counseling families regarding diagnosis, medical findings, natural history, and inheritance patterns, and writing counseling letters when indicated. Responsibilities also include triage of questions from administrative staff, outside hospitals, and physicians, student supervision, and promoting genetic disease awareness. Responsibilities Obtain medical and family history of patients and review pertinent medical records. Perform risk assessment and discuss inheritance patterns and recurrence risks. Conduct psychosocial assessment, provide psychosocial support, counsel on testing options and risks/benefits. Complete chart notes or summaries for family, medical records, and referring physician; provide backup support to other counselors. Provide written information about support groups, resources; facilitate referrals; respond to patient questions promptly. Triage questions from admin staff, outside hospitals, and physicians. Promote genetic disease awareness. Review current literature and guidelines; provide up‑to‑date information on clinical trials and research. Attend meetings, conduct journal club, and maintain up‑to‑date genetic literature. Assist students/trainees by shadowing daily responsibilities. Qualifications Master’s degree from an ABGC/ACGC accredited genetic counseling training program. Board certified. Minimum of 4 years experience practicing as a genetic counselor. 2 years experience in student supervision (preferred). Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to foster student trainee growth. Arabic language proficiency (preferred). Licensure required: Board certified genetic counseling license. Location District of Columbia – Washington. Work location: CN Hospital (Main Campus). Schedule Day shift, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Full‑time. #J-18808-Ljbffr Children's National Hospital
